In his book, Injustice, Daniel Dorling concludes, "Everything it takes to defeat injustice is in the mind. So what matters most is how we think." Applied to injustice on the road, this echoes my view that a change in culture (or thinking) from priority to equality is the single most important step in making Roads FiT for People, along with new rules of the road to support the change. While roadway redesign is essential, I see it as secondary - see Pimlico photos, which show drivers assuming ownership of the road in the manner dictated by traffic controls, and the deference paid by pedestrians. These assumptions will survive as long as the old thinking persists.
