UK speed limit reduction

The "national" speed limit in the UK is set to be reduced from 60mph to 50mph. 2/3 of the counties main roads currently with speed limits of 60mph will see their speeds reduced and will be enforced by average speed cameras.

Motorists are yet again having tempertantrums about this move, oblivious to the benefits of reduced noise and lower PM10. Just by reading the first few comments that followed the article in The Times, you can see that the majority of the British public (and Australians and Americans) are totally ignorant of the externalities of their speed..
