The sign asking people to go out of their way to cross the road by replacing informal zebras with controlled crossings again exposes the coercive mindset of the unelected officials who spread misery and misanthropy across the public realm. It's enough to inspire you to take matters into your own hands and paint the zebras back again! See Road Witch for some wacky and successful ideas for local action on traffic calming in Oxford.

Interesting, thanks. In yesterday's Metro (London daily) was a story, which you probably know, about 89-year-old partially-sighted Chideock resident, Nancy Underwood, who has to make four bus journeys to cross and re-cross the A35 safely. First she gets the bus to Bridport, 3 miles away, where she cross on a zebra and catch the bus back to get off on the opposite side of the road from her house to visit the shop. To get back, she has to take the bus to Charmouth four miles west, and cross there, and take the bus back. Her daughter, Kathy Scott, says that even if you're young you can wait 20 minutes for a gap in traffic. Will blog on this.

Sorry Dave, Ellie has tried to put up a mugshot (she is considerably more tech savvy than me) but has regretably failed so far. Will try again when the right moment happens next.
There is a suspicious, County Council grey, pole appeared on the south side of East St next to the zebra crossing.......could this be creeping puffinisation?
It will be interesting to see what sort of reply WATAG get to the traffic island question.
It has now become clear that WATAG is where we should have been all along, we might have even been able to nip the whole ghastly mess in the bud.
