Stefan writes: Why are there no international awards for fluid, safe intersections? Because western countries would never win. Europeans see themselves as good road-users and others as bad. Without regulation, they say, “there will be chaos”. In the videos, far from chaos, I see considerate road use, near-perfect flow, low speeds, low risk, people walking freely, undeterred. In Europe, cars have priority. In Morocco pedestrians don't impede cars, they share the road with them. As a pedestrian, I liked it immediately. As a driver, it got me quite nervous. But you get used to it. So no more trips to Drachten - vastly overrated - head for Marrakesh!

I added these films of a pre-modern crossroads in Marrakesh, and how the
people create chaos by disobeying the rules. Let's send some of our traffic engineers over there to help out !
More about this and traffic in Morocco here .
